My, oh my. I can't believe how much time has passed since I last wrote, and I haven't been doing too much knitting either.

Since Christmas I did start, and finish, Sally Melville's Asymmetrical Vest. I knit it out of a bulky purple mohair from Knit Picks. I'm not sure it's the right yarn for this vest, but I finished it anyway, in less than a week. I have worn it already - on a trip to New York City. The weight of the yarn is perfect for big city wear in the cold. It kept me warm and yet it's not bulky at all. My concern is that it's a little stretchy and misshapen after wearing for two days. I have to admit that I haven't blocked it yet though. I'd like to knit the vest again in a sturdier yarn so it's will have a sportier look. In any case it was a great quick knit for me, who's feeling like it's hard to sit still lately.

While on the bus to NYC I managed to finish the Momogus Reversible Cable Scarf. I love it. It was my project for "in the car" so it took about a year to knit out of a fine wool - well worth the wait however. I feel so clever having cables that look good on both sides - thanks, Diana.

I arrived in Portland a little over a week ago when I learned that my mother had pneumonia. I came in such a hurry that I didn't have a knitting project. I don't believe I've ever taken a trip without a project before and guess what? It's not the end of the world. However, as soon as I had mom settled with a few good meals under her belt, and a few days of antibiotic in her system, I made it over to the East side of Portland to The Yarn Garden. What a wonderful local yarn shop! I think it's my new favorite. I had previously picked up a few knitting magazines at Fred Myers so I had some ideas in my mind for small projects I could work on while on nursing duty. I selected a luscious pinks/greys/metallic Berroco Sox yarn to knit up into the Diagonal Lace Scarf featured in the February 2010 issue of Knit 'n Style. I'm afraid it might be a little scratchy with the metallic but it's really coming out nicely. Hopefully it will soften up when washed.

So that's the knitting news for January and probably February. Time is slipping by way too quickly.
